One thing that keeps the family together both young and old is having where people can have fun. Having a playground in the backyard of any house is a very strategic thing to think of if kids are to be carried along in the development and togetherness of family. It is not just.

It then becomes paramount that attention is given to this area so that kids won't be left behind. How then can an effective fun and safe playground for children be created? This and other things I am going to handle in this article.

It had been said that play is the only work kids do. That is true to an extent because if a child is deprived play, an important part of the child's life had been truncated. Indeed deprivation of play shows drastically on the developing child. The child that is deprived of play displays anger and frustration. So that saying that "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is actually true.

To create a fun and safe playground for children a number of things have to be taken into consideration.

Things To Consider Before Building A Playground For Children

The Type Of Game You Intend To Introduce: The type of games you wish to introduce should be the first thing to consider when planning to build a playground for children. Is it indoor or outdoor games you want to install for them? Is it church, school, or home environment? These and other questions will help you know the kind of game that would be ideal for them.

The Available Space: After determining the type of game to install, the next should be how big or small the environment is. The available space will determine how the playground would be constructed. The Bigger environment will accommodate bigger playground while smaller one won't give room to a relatively big playground.

The Age Group Of The Kids: The age groups of the children will determine the kind of playground equipment you will put for them. Ages 2 – 5 do not engage in many activities because their strength and physical fitness are too small compared to older children. For this age group, indoor games would be best for them. Get them toys of different colors that can easily attract them and keep them busy for hours. This goes a long way to improve their brains and help them in color recognition. There are other indoor games they can engage in to make them active. Although all these help them in one way or the other but will always limit them to games that encourage competitions instead of cooperation and they can easily get bored when the game is just monotony.

Those that are above 5 years of age can be engaged in outdoor games, where they can play ball, run around, jump, climb structures and skip rope. These activities make them more active and help their muscles to develop. It has a lot of advantages ranging from mental development, social development, to physical fitness and others.

Steps In Creating A Fun And Safe Environment

Step 1

Get a timetable for each day and paste it where everyone will see it in the room. Get their attention there so that those that could not see it will get to know about it. Get someone to read it out line by line so that younger ones that could not read will be carried along.

Step 2

Get one child to act as the leader for each day. The child should be the one that will be dictating how the playground equipment is used. He divides them into groups when it is time to play a team game. When it is time to act something like family drama, the leader should be the one to allocate roles to other children, like who will act as mother, father, etc.

Step 3

The coordinator should have all the names of the children participating and call them by their names. This creates a kind of freedom in their hearts and makes them feel at home with the adult.

Step 4

You don't just rely on the activities you have carved out for the day. Develop some other activities so that if there is an emergency, you will have something to fall back on.

Step 5

The coordinator should not be the only adult around, he should assign another adult to another strategic place to join in supervising the children.

Step 6

Let the furniture be arranged in such a way that there will not be any sharp corner that can wound the kids. Check also for any dangling rope that could stand as danger and remove them.

Step 7

Don't use equipment or chemicals that allergic people react to so that everyone will enjoy their stay. Try as much as you can to go green.

Step 8

Commune with parents to know if there is any child that needs special attention so that a medical personnel would be put standby.

Step 9

Don't forget hand washing equipment so that the kids can wash their hands once they are done with their play.

I believe I have extensively taken you through the steps and ways through which you can construct and put in place a fun and safe play environment.
